For more information on tickets and or subscriptions contact Judi at 250.725.3373.
Red Chamber Ensemble
Saturday, February 20, 2010
Clayoquot Sound Theatre
Call 250.725.3373, Doors 7:00pm
a West Coast Winter Music Series event
Red Chamber straddles traditional and contemporary, whether it be ancient Chinese string band music seldom heard in the west, bluegrass, or jazz fusion. These virtuosic performers set the stage on fire with hot licks, power and passion! Red Chamber takes its inspiration from the traditional Chinese 'Plucked String' repertoire that is seldom if ever heard in the west. Featuring only plucked strings. Red Chamber creates a unique sound while performing a repertoire that spans centuries, including transcriptions from the Tang Dynasty (618-907), to modern compositions. Red Chamber is exploring other genres of plucked string music like Bluegrass, jazz, and a host of other folk traditions. This is an exciting ensemble of masterful musicians bringing a new sound on ancient instruments to the concert stage.
Current Swell
Wednesday, March 10, 2010
Tofino Community Hall
Tickets: $45, Doors 9:00pm
Vancouver Island based band Current Swell has a unique style of music that is deeply rooted in folk and blues, reggae inspired, and rock driven. The musical recipe is equal parts prairie and coastal, blending a couple of acoustic guitars, a lap slide, harmonica, drums, bass, and 4 vocal mics. This formula amounts to a tightly polished act and is pushing the boundary of what people know as new music.
David Gogo
Thursday, March 11, 2010
Black Rock Resort, Ucluelet
Tickets $45, Doors 7:00pm
West Coast Winter Music Series event
David Gogo's music is the kind of blues that makes your hips swing and your beer taste that much better. David received a ukulele at age 4 and his first guitar at age 5. Encouraged by his parents throughout his childhood, the guitar began to captivate him. By the age of 16 Gogo was working steadily as a professional musician. His interest in the blues could be considered unusual for a teenager in the early 1980's. Nonetheless, David was drawn to the emotional power and raw depth of such performers as Howling Wolf and Son House. David had the chance to meet the Texas guitar icon Stevie Ray Vaughan, who encouraged Gogo to pursue and commit to become a serious blues artist. Shortly thereafter he formed a band called The Persuaders. The self-titled album was released to critical acclaim and garnered David a Juno nomination for Best New Artist.
