Ross Neilsen
Saturday, October 29, 2011
Weigh West Harbour Lounge
Tickets $10 • Doors 8pm
Canada’s hardest working blues rock act, Ross Neilsen & The Sufferin’ Bastards, do it right. They take their strong, timeless material to the place that matters. The People. Three years, 600 shows, 240,000 kms, five national tours all executed 100% independently. In a time of corporate cookie cutter music this is the return to real. Proving hard work pays off Ross Neilsen has been honoured with a nomination for Best New Artist at The Maple Blues Awards in 2010, two Rising Star nominations from cbc, back to back Blues Album of the Year nominations from the East Coast Music Association and more recently Ross won Best Blues Recording for Redemption at the 2010 MusicNB awards. Ross Neilsen is the real, old school kind of artist. Write. Tour. Record. Tour. Repeat. Wear your Hallowe’en costume!
Funk Hunters
Monday, October 31, 2011
Tofino Legion
Tickets $15 • Doors 9pm
Armed with 4-turntables and the unique ability to create live mashups and remixes, their DJ sets stand out. Seamlessly blending original productions with everything from HipHop to Funk, Disco to House, Dubstep to DnB and everything in between, The Funk Hunters create original sets never replicated. It’s not uncommon to find this duo headlining an all bass music festival one night and then performing a funk, soul, or boogie set the next. In just a few short years, The Funk Hunters have built an international following, releasing music on labels around the globe and showcasing their signature high-energy DJ sets at some of the world’s most popular music festivals and clubs.
C.R. Avery
with Wil
Saturday, November 5, 2011
Tofino Legion
Tickets $15 • Doors 9pm
CR Avery is a singer/songwriter who refuses to succumb to predictability. An internationally acclaimed beat box blues poet and one man band. Avery lays down soulful vocals over grooves that sway back and forth, but he also uses a beat-box, trumpet and, that 80s classic, the keytar, creating a multilayered sound that constantly reveals something new. An exhilarating front man combining the everyman heart of Bruce Springsteen, the insightful words of Bob Dylan, the street attitude of Lou Reed. He is the author of four hip-hop operas, a new, energetic style of theatre informed by the stories and rhythms of the streets. Truly a unique performer with east-side perspective on life. This man is a peaceful revolutionary.
Wil with C.R. Avery
Saturday, November 5, 2011
Tofino Legion
Tickets $15 • Doors 9pm
Wil began playing guitar at age 13… At 41, he makes no apologies for the white in his beard and laughing admits he can hardly wait to get old so he can sing the songs he spent a life time writing.
Live, Wil is a force of nature. One review quotes “The man works a guitar so hard, it inches toward igniting during a set. Often times, it relents to the strain of such fierce play by popping off a string or two, as if to wave a white flag of surrender if only for a moment…”
His famously intense, enigmatic performances have earned him accolades including a nod for wcma’s “entertainer of the year”.
Celso Macado with Estanislau Gubiotti
Saturday, November 5, 2011
Clayoquot Sound Theatre
West Coast Winter Music Series concert
When mandolinist and vocalist Estanislau (Stan) Nogueira Gubiotti met up with virtuoso guitarist, percussionist and composer Celso Machado in Vancouver a few years back and began playing the music of their Brazilian homeland their joy and relief at being able to play so freely was immense. Since that first meeting the two play together whenever they have the opportunity and Stan is the guest artist on Celso’s new Juno-nominated CD Capivara.
Hilltop Hoods
with Sweatshop Union
Friday, November 18, 2011
Tofino Legion
Tickets $20 • Doors 9pm
Rolling Stone Magazine described Hilltop Hoods as “one of the most defining and influential Australian bands of this decade and the next”. And the accolades don’t stop there with their 2009 masterpiece State of the Art being crowned the highest selling Australian hip hop record of all time and 3 Aria Awards, it’s no wonder that Hilltop Hoods are repeatedly singled out as one of Australia’s hottest live acts by media, industry insiders and fans alike. Hilltop Hoods are hitting the shores of Canada to do 3 date whirl wind tour to warm up for the Eminem tour back home in December. If you haven’t seen this crew perform yet you are in for one hell of a party!
Rocky Mountain Rebel Music
Friday, November 18, 2011
Tofino Community Hall
Tickets $25 • Doors 9pm
Rocky Mountain Rebel Music has expanded to include 10 members from across the globe to bring a unique variety of musical experience and expertise. This diverse collective talent accounts for the band's high energy and full sound as well as its broad range of musical influences. Charged by reggae, rock, funk, dub, dancehall, punk, and world rhythms, rmrm delivers an original sound that defies comparison. Shredding guitars, bubblin’ keys, smooth horns, hand percussion, drums, and heavy bass form the rough and rugged foundation upon which vocals rise and fall like the tide on Vancouver Island’s rocky coast.
Bedouin Soundclash
Saturday, December 3, 2011
Tofino Legion
Tickets $30 • Doors 9pm
Juno award winning Bedouin Soundclash has emerged as a young group refusing to be classified, while blurring the lines of reggae and rock. Jay Malinowski’s soulful wail and rasp rests on Eon Sinclair’s deep dubbing bass while Sekou Lumumba drives a heavy rhythm, blazing their own path in the musical landscape. Unlike most musicians who try to mimic their musical idols, Bedouin Soundclash forges their own musical path creating music embodying each member’s personal musical preferences, creating an innovative fusion of Reggae, Rock, Punk and Soul. Tofino box copies and pastes! Bedouin Soundclash hit radio and video stations across Canada with the single “When The Night Feels My Song” from their album Sounding A Mosaic.

Joe Trio
Saturday, January 28, 2012
Clayoquot Community Theatre
West Coast Winter Music Series concert
Joe Trio is not your average piano trio. They don’t want to be neatly categorized, but instead strive for diversity, versatility, and more than a little humour and unpredictability. Their repertoire consists of the classics – from Papa Haydn to Uncle Shostakovich- new works by contemporary composers, and their own arrangements of popular, jazz and rock tunes. And they’re not afraid to mix together so many styles of music into a single piece it makes your head spin. More than virtuosi, the Trio’s members are fantastic performers who engage the audience in a way few classical musicians can. Amply witty, charming, and tremendously musical, Joe Trio leaves audiences with a new appreciation for classical music.
Miles Black Trio
Saturday, February 25, 2012
Clayoquot Sound Theatre
West Coast Winter Music Series concert
Miles Black began his professional music career in 1980 (at age 14) in Victoria, British Columbia after studying piano in the provincial capital with George Essihos.
Currently based in Vancouver, BC, Miles has a wealth of musical experience as an arranger, producer, composer, session musician, guitarist, bassist, saxophonist, songwriter, musical theatre director, music therapist and college level music instructor. He has performed on countless albums, and has played with many music greats around the world.
The Sojourners
Saturday, March 31, 2012
Clayoquot Sound Theatre
West Coast Winter Music Series concert
When Canadian blues icon Jim Byrnes called Vancouver based gospel singer Marcus Mosely on the phone a few years ago to ask if he could round up a few friends to record some back up vocals for a new album, no one could have guessed what would happen next.
From the moment Mosely and his pals, Will Sanders and Ron Small stepped up to the microphone and began singing, they realized that they had something very special going on. When Byrnes dubbed the trio The Sojourners the name stuck and – as they say – the rest is history. Formative years spent singing in the churches of Mosely, Small and Sanders’, hometowns – Ralls, Texas, Chicago, Illinois and Alexandria, Louisiana respectively – give The Sojourners’ sound an authentic edge that only comes with experience. This is real gospel - blessed with a soul that can’t be faked.
