What happens if you cross a Brazilian carnival spirit with a reggae soundsystem? You come up with the unique sound of Ninja Tunes recording artist DJ Vadim. He'll be making his way to the westcoast with mc's Abstract Rude and Yarah Bravo. Born in Saint Petersburg Russia, raised in London and now currently a resident of Brooklyn New York, Vadim's sound is unpredictable with touches of disco and tubby-esque dub moments.
Hayley Sales
Saturday, October 20, 2007
The Tofino Legion
Tickets $12, Doors 9pm
A rising star in the roots music scene Hayleys has been garnering a lot of attention where ever she goes. Originally from Portland and now a Vancouver Island farm girl Hayley grew up in a life that was saturated with music. Her father, an ex-hippie was a performing guitarist and ran a recording studio out of their home. Hayleys music is blues, folk and rock, a deliciously rich blend of music to warm your hearts. Her guitar style is sensual and electric and wildly syncopated. Don't miss this opportunity to see her up close and personal.
White Cowbell Oklahoma
Saturday, October 27, 2007
The Tofino Legion
Tickets $12, Doors 9pm
Toronto's southern-fried supergroup White Cowbell Oklahoma is one of the most entertaining live spectacles north of Dixie. Their 10-piece fire-breathing, whiskey-guzzling rock onslaught, featuring nothing less than four lead guitarists, is a feast for the senses. The village people of rock & roll, these boys put on a spectacle of a show that involves everything from chainsaws, g-strings and fire. Punchy, raw and infectious thier music is a rousing chant-a-long where singers belt out over guitars, two drummers, fiddle, bass, keyboards, a Moog-wankin' wizard, banjo and accordion. You can label this baby as 'Southern fried weirdness that knocks you on your arse' because that's about as accurate of a description as you'll find for White Cowbell Oklahoma.
Dr Israel
Wednesday, October 31, 2007
Tofino Legion
Tickets $20, Doors 9pm
(Double header with Moses Mayes)
The boundary-crossing works and collaborations of The Legendary Dr. Israel cry out like a call to revolution, embracing styles from reggae to drum 'n' bass to hard-core metal. Like Eddy Grant on a counter-cultural warpath, Dr. Israel's politically charged lyrics and diverse musical foundations deliver a refreshing blast of thought-provoking tracks that will make music fans from all walks stop and tune in. Doc's ability to represent and reprocess his influences (Black Uhuru, Black Sabbath, Bad Brains, Run dmc, Roni Size) into compelling new forms is astounding. And what ties these styles of music together so organically? The answer is simple: Doc understands that what he loves about all music is big bass and big drums. He also understands how to implement that knowledge; this is why Doc is such a special musical mind.

No Means No
Saturday, November 3, 2007
The Tofino Legion
Tickets $15, Doors 9pm
Canada's preeminent power trio, No Means No have been abrading delicate ears with their complex rhythm-heavy funk-punk and promulgating leftist social commentary across North America since 1981. That was the year a couple of nice Canadian boys, brothers John and Rob Wright, formally began their strange sonic experiments that fused punk with blues, jazz, funk, metal, and pure noise.
