tofino concert - current swell

Current Swell & Jon and Roy

Saturday, September 1, 2012
Tofino Legion
Tickets $20 • Doors 9pm

Vancouver Island based band Current Swell has a unique style of music that is deeply rooted in folk and blues, reggae inspired, and rock driven. The musical recipe is equal parts prairie and coastal, blending a couple of acoustic guitars, a lap slide, harmonica, drums, bass, and 4 vocal mics. This formula amounts to a tightly polished act and is pushing the boundary of what people know as new music.
The prolific songwriting of Jon Middleton and the rhythmic flare of Roy Vizer is the magic of Jon & Roy. The collaboration began in 2004 and took them around the world. Their sound has so much beach in it you may find sand behind your ears after a listen. Roots, reggae and just a smidgen of soul.

tofino concert - shane philip

Shane Philip

Friday, September 28, 2012
Humanity
Tickets $10 • Doors 9:00pm

Swelling in primordial pulses and wholloping whoops, the tacit tones of Shane Philip's didgeridoo hold the power to still listeners into silence or encourage audiences to rise up in a tribal swell of intoxicating spirit. Meanwhile his hands will be skillfully juggling between shaking up rhythms with his aslatua, driving the dance floor with his djembe and sliding out grooves on his Weissenborn-style guitar while his foot taps in earthshaking electronic kicks wherever they might fit. Borrowing from folk, reggae, blues and beyond, he blurs the boundaries of expectation and music into an altogether unique soundscape. "We are influenced by everything we listen to," Shane reminds. "So much of what shapes the music, vibe and feeling of the songs is unconscious. I write music that results from everything that goes on in the life I live."

Prester Johns Gone
