In the Loop
(UK, 2009, Comedy, 106 min, Rated 14)
Directed by Armando Iannucci

The US President and the UK Prime Minister fancy a war. But not everyone agrees that war is a good thing. US General Miller doesn't think so and neither does the British Secretary of State for International Development, Simon Foster. But, after Simon accidentally backs military action on TV, he suddenly has a lot of friends in Washington, DC. If Simon can get in with the right DC people, if his entourage of one can sleep with the right intern, and if they can both stop the Prime Minister's chief spin-doctor rigging the vote at the UN, they can halt the war. If they don't… well, they can always sack their Director of Communications who they never liked anyway and who's back home dealing with blocked drains and a man who's angry about a collapsing wall.

Water on the Table
(2010, Can, Doc, 79 min, Rated G)
Directed by Liz Marshall

Is water a good like Coca-Cola? Or a human right like air?
Water on the Table is a character-driven, social-issue documentary that explores Canada's relationship to its freshwater, arguably its most precious natural resource. The film features water-warrior Maude Barlow, who states: "Water must be declared a public trust and a human right that belongs to the people, the ecosystem and the future, and preserved for all time and practice in law. Clean water must be delivered as a public service, not a profitable commodity." The film intimately captures the public face of Maude Barlow as well as the unscripted woman behind the scenes. Her opponents are giants in the world of policy and economics, and they argue that water is no different from any other resource; the best way to protect freshwater is to privatize it. It is proposed that Canada bulk-export its water to the United States, imminently.

The Social Network
(2010, US, Biopic, 120 min, Rated G)
Directed by David Fincher

You don’t get to 500 million friends without making a few enemies…

Director David Fincher teams with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) to explore the meaning of success in the early 21st century from the perspectives of the technological innovators who revolutionized the way we all communicate. The year was 2003. As prohibitively expensive technology became affordable to the masses and the Internet made it easy to stay in touch with people who were halfway across the world, Harvard undergrad and computer wizard Mark Zuckerberg launched a website with the potential to alter the very fabric of our society. Despite its incredible success, Zuckerberg’s personal life began to suffer as he became mired in legal disputes, and discovered that many of the 500 million people he had friended during his rise to the top were eager to see him fall.
