the letter 'I'Imbolc, also known as Groundhog's Day, Candlemas, or the Feast of Lights, marks the midpoint in the dark half of the year on February 2nd; now is the time to celebrate the power that will summon Springtime.

According to Gaelic folklore, this is the day when the hag goddess gathers her firewood for the rest of winter - sunny weather means she is gathering lots of fuel for the remainder of the long winter, whereas foul weather is seen as a welcome sign of an early spring! Celebrate this festival with hearth fires, bonfires, candlelight and purification rites.

The Full Moon rising on the 9th features a partial eclipse, visible before Moonset as dusky shading on the Moon's northern side.

Lunar eclipses can awaken irrational responses; this one, occurring in the constellation of Leo, advises us to allow for the diminishment of ego, especially in our intimate and domestic realms.

New Moon on the 24th in the ethereal sign of Pisces should enhance the masks, music and mayhem of Mardi Gras celebrations, getting the final month of winter off to a fine start!
