West Coast Winter Music Series 2004

The West Coast Winter Music series is presenting the first of 5 concerts, Nov. 13th at the Clayoquot Sound community Theatre. This is our 5th year and we have an exciting line up, starting with the Silk Road Duo featuring multi instrumental world music. For more info or tickets, please call Judi or e-mail 725-3373 or jajg@island.net

Lately I’ve heard friends espouse the delights of curling up with a good book in a comfy chair to ride out the downpours of a west coast Fall. With summer behind us the opportunity to “come off the pace” and enjoy some quiet time to relax and enjoy is a welcome thing. For many that means heading out of town to get their cultural fix in the big city. For others, it means staying put and renewing their subscription to the West Coast Winter Music Series, a five part concert season that begins this year on Saturday, November 13 with a performance by the Silk Road Ensemble.

Now in its fifth year, the West Coast Winter Music Series is planned and programmed by a dedicated group of volunteers who just happen to love music of all kinds, but classical music in particular. A loosely knit group we are always looking for like minded music lovers to join our ranks. We are a non-profit group whose revenues from our loyal subscriber base are put back into paying the artists and providing travel and accomodation fees for them to perform in Tofino. With no government or outside financial assistance, we are proud to say that we have operated in the black for over five years. Quite a record!

This year, the season will offer five concerts spread through November to mid-April. Concerts will take place at the Clayoquot Sound Community Theatre in Tofino.

The lineup is particularly exciting as we have expanded our contact base to include musicians from the Victoria Symphony, University of Victoria Music Department and the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Following the Silk Road Ensemble in November we start off the new year on January 15 with an evening with the Victoria Guitar Duo, featuring classical guitarists Alexander Dunn and Stephen Locheaum playing Beethoven and Rodriguo; February 19 offers Heidi Krutzen, classical harp and Lorna McGhee, flute; March 12, The Poet’s Muse, with piano, violin and voice performing Handel and Brahms and April 16 the welcome return of Russian pianist Pavel Egorov, who has included Chopin in his programme this year. So, plan ahead and reserve your tickets for a wonderful season of music making right in our own backyard. Subscriptions and single tickets are now on sale by calling Judi Andrews at 725-3373.
