Quiksilver and Roxy present this year’s Tofino SuRFJAM for a 5th consecutive year. This event began in 1988 and is regarded as the premiere event in Canadian Surfing. The ‘SuRFJAM’ is a summer weekend event held at Cox Bay, on Vancouver Island, from Saturday, June 26th to Sunday the 27th. Utilizing 100 meters of Cox Bay directly in front of the public access trail for two days, the set up will consist of a judging platform, sponsor tenting, DJ’s, on-site sampling and promotional booths and a BBQ with a food and water/beverage area. There will be no admission fee for spectators of the event. Rounding out the beach experience will be the Coors Light Official SuRFJAM party with recording artists (TBA) performing Saturday night at Tofino Community Hall with a 300 person capacity - always sold out - hottest ticket in town! Tickets will only be sold at the contest site at the Coors Light tent.

The SuRFJAM’s 8 divisions accommodate both Men’s and Women’s Professional, Amateur and Junior Amateur categories with more international surfers expected to compete this year. The action is intense as top surfers battle for the cash prize purse and ultimately, the BC championship title. New this year will be a “Masters” division, which will bring the legends of BC surfing back for the first time in decades. Ancillary events will incorporate the lifestyle side of surfing and will include a beach BBQ, beach games, spectator prize giveaways, as well as other events to keep the spectators and athletes actively involved in the event.

Parking is always an issue at this event and to make it easier a local transit system known as the ‘Tofino Beach Bus’ will be providing additional service from Tofino direct to Cox Bay. The Beach Bus can transport you and all your gear including bikes and surfboards. For schedules and fairs please call 1-866-986-3466 or 250-725-2871. If busing is not an option and you’re driving, please car pool - there will be parking attendants directing traffic. If you find yourself parking on the highway, make certain that the tires are not on the pavement and that you’re not parked on a blind corner. The RCMP and By-law officers will be towing any car that interferes with the flow of traffic. Nothing sucks like having a fun day at the beach, only to find your ride towed, so be considerate and aware of how and where you’re parking and please listen to the parking attendants, they are there to help.
