Andrew Struthers launches his new book in Tofino:
The Last Voyage of the Loch Ryan

He takes up residence onboard with his nine-year-old daughter Pasheabel, and his perennial housing problems are solved. Or are they?

The Last Voyage of the Loch Ryan picks up where the author’s prize-winning The Green Shadow left off. This new book is a tragicomic account of small town life in British Columbia, and of how its residents are affected by the decline of the west coast fishing fleet. Struthers, suddenly ousted from his idyllic life homesteading in the forests of Clayoquot Sound, takes to the high seas in a a last-ditch attempt to salvage his free-booting lifestyle from the Forces of Order.

The Last Voyage of the Loch Ryan is packed to the gunwhales with fascinating west coast ship lore, hilarious and affectionate accounts of the author’s neighbours, and at least one good laugh per page.

Andrew Struthers homesteaded in Clayoquot Sound for ten years, three on the MV Loch Ryan and seven in a hand-hewn pyramid on Poole’s Land. His book is available at the Wildside Booksellers bookstore in Tofino.
