Tofino artist Paul Sam

Paul is a jeweler with over 20 years experience. He is of First Nations decent, born into a family of artists. His mom was a painter, dad a wood carver, and as a result he and his siblings all naturally express themselves through the arts.

Paul first explored the jeweler's art form in his youth with training from his uncle. He spent some time in Neah Bay, Washington, where he was taught by Ny Tom to engrave into various metals.

Spending his life on the West Coast towns of Ahousat and Tofino, images of indigenous animals from this area inspire his work regularily. Whales are a common theme in his work. Paul works in silver, gold, copper, and platinum; creating striking bracelets, pendants, earrings, and engagement/wedding rings. Athough he most enjoys creating his own designs, he also does take commissions.
