Nuu-chah-nulth artist Douglas David

Douglas David is an artist of Nuu-chah-nulth, Dakota and Sioux descent. Born to artists, Joe David and Sandra Tuifua, Douglas has been artistically inclined his whole life. His father gave him carving instructions before the age of ten, and his mother introduced him to selling his work.

David's specific crests belonging to the Nuu Chah Nulth nation are; the Wolf, Killerwhale, and Thunderbird, these images are prevalent in his works on wood and raw hide.He loves to carve using the Nuu-Chah-Nulth background giving his work the history and symbolism of his ancestors.

Douglas currently resides in Port Alberni with his wife, Angela and their seven children. Douglas credits the ancestral spirits and his own soul for his inspiration in carving. His works are found in collections worldwide and he is considered to belong to the next generation of master artists of the West Coast.
