Award winning wildlife photographer Matt Maran visits Tofino to release his new book ‘Vancouver Island - From Barkley to Clayoquot’.
Matt Maran is an award-winning photographer whose passion for wildlife and landscapes has taken him all over the world. His photographs of animals range from Alaskan bears to South East Asian Primates whilst his landscape photography covers many terrains – soda lakes, glacial rivers and primeval forests.
Based in London, he has captured images from as far afield as the Amazonian rainforests to studies nearer home of Hampstead Heath, Richmond Park and the New Forest.
Matt is an active supporter of global conservation efforts. His ambition, through his photography, is to build on his knowledge and contribute sensitively to raise awareness of the essential need for positive environmental policy change.
Matt’s work has been published worldwide in films, books and conservation journals. In addition to this his work has featured recently in BBC Wildlife and National Geographic Magazines. Matt presents slide shows and photographic workshops for both adults and children. He visits schools and universities sharing first-hand experiences and covering a wide range of topics from animal behaviour and conservation through to travel and culture.

Matthew Maran has been photographing the wildlife and landscapes of the west coast of Vancouver Island since 2005. Having spent more than 1,000 hours at sea, persevering in some of the area’s most extreme weather conditions, he has gathered a unique body of work covering the breadth of Barkley and Clayoquot Sounds.
Maran is an award winning wildlife photographer whose images have appeared in National Geographic and BBC Wildlife magazines as wellas films, books, and conservation journals. His work has won highly commended awards in both the European Wildlife Photographer of the Year and the Travel Photographer of the Year and his images are currently represented by Nature Picture Library.
