Tofino in December 2011

by Adam Buskard, Tofino

the letter 'W'Winter is upon us. As we head into the shortest days of the year it’s that much more important to be involved in our community and support those who have organized activities and events to enrich our lives.

Have a great holiday season everyone and see you in the new year.

The Winter Celebration Artisan Festival

Come enjoy some of our area’s finest arts and crafts and meet the people that make them.

Over 23 local artisans will be on hand at the Weigh West Harbour Lounge on Saturday Dec 3 from 1 to 7pm and Sunday Dec 4 11am to 3pm to display and sell their work. There will be many quality one-of-kind westcoast gifts for all ages, to meet your Christmas needs. In its 9th year, this little festival has become a popular local Christmas tradition. There will be live music and refreshments. It features a wide variety of locally-made gifts, home decorations, food, and Christmas baking.

By supporting local artists you’re also supporting the arts in our community. Support our artists. Support our communities. Come join the Celebration!

The Hospice Radioathon

The 4th annual Hospice Radioathon is coming up on Friday, Dec. 9. Geoff Johnson will be broadcasting the event all day on Long Beach Radio, from 7am-7pm. People can call in to bid on auction items during the Radioathon and the winners will be announced at the end of the show. Also on Friday, there will be gift tables set up at the Co-op stores in Tofino and Ucluelet where you can donate directly to Hospice. You can do so with cash or cheque and receive either a tax deductible receipt or a gift worth up to twice the value of your contribution.

Acting Classes with Gary Marks

The Clayoquot Sound community Theatre is sponsoring acting classes for adults with instructor Gary Marks, Gary started the Tofino theatre and has produced and directed many great plays there. Starting on January 10 from 5 to 7pm the classes will run Tuesdays and Thursdays for six weeks. This will liven up the doldrums of winter for ten lucky adults who register for the class. That’s right, class size is limited, and the lessons take place at the Theatre in Tofino. You can contact Gary Marks at 250.725.2565 for more information and registration.

Adam Buskard has spent many years in Tofino. Having lived on Frank Island for a number of years, he knows a thing or two about Winter in Tofino.
