Tofino Parks & Recreations youth & adult programs for Fall 2007. These programs are for youths and adults and run from September to early December, 2007.
Stretch/Tai Chi Chuan

This Stretch/Tai-Chi class is geared for adults with different levels of fitness. The first part of the class will be stretching and gentle strengthening exercises, the second part will be Tai-Chi Chuan (Wu Style).
Tai-Chi Chuan is one of the best means to preserve health and strengthen general physique. The postures exercise the whole body, including internal organs, sharpen the mind, enhance flexibility and coordination as well as improve circulation. The characteristics of Tai Chi are calm, relaxed, agile, arc like and balanced.
This class is an offshoot of the Monday and Wednesday Stretch Tai Chi for Seniors, however this class is open to all ages, rather than specifically aimed at seniors.

Join instructor Leah Austin for this low impact, cardio exercise that helps tone the body, burn calories and strengthen your cardio vascular system, all with minimum stress and strain on joints and muscles. Snowboarding at Mount Washington

Depart Village Green Gazebo at 6 am sharp!
Return to Tofino approx 9 pm
participants will be dropped off at home.
$45 with own equipment
$59 w/o own ski equipment
$69 w/o own snowboard equipment

Head to the mountain for a day on the slopes. Participants should pack a lunch, plenty of water and some spending money for a snack stop on the way home (we like the Courtenay “Subway”).
Please let us know in advance whether you will be skiing or snowboarding and whether or not you have your own gear. Helmets recommended.
Register early as this program always fills quickly. More trips to come in the New Year!

Casino Field Trip!

This is an adult oriented excuriosn. Port Alberni’s new Rim Rock Gaming Centre is opening this September. The centre features a restaurant, 75 slot machines, electronic bingo and a brew pub.

Learn how to make simple nutritious meals without breaking the bank. Many great local ingredients can be found right here on the west coast. Classes are held on the second Sunday of every month. All classes are $10 and are held in the Tofino Community Hall Kitchen. Please register in advance at 725-3229. This helps us ensure adequate ingredients will be on hand for the class.

Autumn is the season when westcoast cooks become wild mushroom hunters whenever we can. Learn to identify and harvest chantrelles, pines, angel wings and maybe an elf saddle morel. These mushrooms, praised the world over by gourmets, are free for the picking here. A field trip will be arranged prior to the class where all interested class members can come mushroom picking. We will then make a salmon chantrelle pie and other mushroom delicacies with our day’s harvest and hopefully feast on pine mushrooms.Please register in advance at 725-3229.

Kayak Trip to Morpheus Island with Naturalist & Historian Adrienne Mason

This is a fun, family oriented afternoon excursion to historical Morpheus Island. While this trip is family friendly, anyone is welcome to participate. Thanks to Tofino Sea Kayaking for partnering with us on this program and to Adrianne Mason for coming along and sharing her knowledge.
