This Fall program guide contains program and event information from September to early December, 2007. The following listings are our Children's Programs.

Red Cross Swim Lessons

MacKenzie Beach Pool
Tuesdays & Thursdays (after school)
October 2 - November 1
Times will depend on registration volume
Instructor: Pat Taron
Levels 1-6 $48 (30 min)
Levels 7-10 $67 (45 min)
(All Ages)

Red Cross Swim Lessons with instructor Pat Taron begin this October, Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. A schedule of class times will be finalized once registration is complete. Please indicate your child’s swimming level when registering.

 

Junior Lifesaving

MacKenzie Beach Pool

registration volume of earlier classes.

$60This program has been developed to bridge the gap between red cross lessons and bronze medallion. This class is intended for children who have completed the red cross levels but who are not yet 13 and are unable to enroll in the Bronze Medallion Program. Focus will be on both swimming and learning lifesaving techniques in preparation for Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross. Classes are one hour, Tuesdays only (early evening, after red cross lessons) and are taught by certified instructor Pat Taron. Please register in advance 725-3229.

 

Bronze Medallion

Must be 13+ at time of course

Bronze Medallion is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.

Bronze Medallion teaches lifesaving and lifeguarding, the principles of emergency procedures and teamwork.

Bronze Medallion is the prerequisite for Bronze Cross and for all advanced training programs in lifesaving, lifeguarding and leadership.

 

 

Junior Soccer

League soccer for 7-9 year olds gets underway this fall. This team will focus on skill development, teamwork and of course, fun! We plan to have some fun games with Ucluelet, Coaches are still needed for this program to run! Talk to Sally or April if you are interested.

 

Senior Soccer

Wickaninnish School Field
Dates & Times will depend on coach’s availability
10-13 years

Once again this year we are pleased to be participating in the West Coast Soccer League with Ucluelet. Please register for this one a.s.a.p. We are still looking for a coach for this program. Call April or Sally if you are interested in coaching.

 

Pre-Primary Ballet

Tofino’s Community Hall
Thursdays • 2:45 – 3:45 (1 hour)
Sept 20- Dec 6 (12 weeks)
Instructor: Gabrielle Springett
5 and 6 year olds
$ 85.00

Instructed by Gabrielle Springett, Registered Teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance, this class will introduce beginners with minimal to moderate dance experience to the basics of ballet in a fun environment. Ballet develops strength, develops posture and increases flexibility.  This program is open to both boys and girls. Must be at least 5 years old.

 

Primary/Grade 1 Ballet

Sept 20- Dec 6 (12 weeks)
Instructor: Gabrielle Springett
7+ years

Instructed by Gabrielle Springett, Registered Teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance, this class will focus on the basics of ballet for those students with some dance experience.  New this fall, students in this class may work towards an assessment. Participants will learn these basics in a fun environment and begin to explore steps and combinations.  This program is open to both boys and girls.

 

Jazz Dance

Tofino’s Community Hall
Thursdays • 4:45-5:45 pm
Sept 20- Dec 6 (12 weeks)
Instructor: Gabrielle Springett
9+ years
$ 95.00

Learn new dance moves and dance to your favourite new music.  Class will focus on the use of rhythm and coordination while developing dance routines to popular music and having lots of fun at the same time. Open to both boys and girls.

 

Port Alberni Haunted Train

Depart from Village Green Gazebo
at 4:30 pm sharp!
Date dependant on haunted train schedule - TBA
Return to Tofino around 10:00 pm –
kids will be dropped off at home
April and/or Sally
8-13 years
$20

Drive to Port in the rec van and go on a spook-tacular ride on Port Alberni’s haunted train. Participants should pack a sandwich or snack for dinner.

 

Prod-D Day Wave Pool Day Trip

Monday, December 3rd
Leave 9 am from the Village Green Gazebo.
Return to Tofino approximately 6 pm.
Ages 8-13 • $30/day

Head to Nanaimo for a day at the wave pool. Bring your bathing suit, towel and a healthy lunch. Please register in advance at 725-3229.

 

Ice Skating Lessons

Do you know how to skate? We are working on arranging ice skating lessons in Port Alberni this fall. Stay tuned for more info, or give us a call and let us know if you’re interested.

 

Kayak Trip to Morpheus Island with Naturalist & Historian Adrienne Mason

Sunday, September 23
3:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Meet at Tofino Sea Kayaking at 3:15 pm
$25/person or
$40/parent child pair

This is a fun, family oriented afternoon excursion to historical Morpheus Island. While this trip is family friendly, anyone is welcome to participate. Thanks to Tofino Sea Kayaking for partnering with us on this program and to Adrianne Mason for coming along and sharing her knowledge. Participants must register in advance as guide to participant ratios must be coordinated well ahead of time. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Call 725-3229 to register.

Snowboarding at Mount Washington

Saturday, December 15
Depart Village Green Gazebo at 6 am sharp!
Return to Tofino approx 9 pm
participants will be dropped off at home.

$45 with own equipment
$59 w/o own ski equipment
$69 w/o own snowboard equipment

12-17 years

Head to the mountain for a day on the slopes. Participants should pack a lunch, plenty of water and some spending money for a snack stop on the way home (we like the Courtenay “Subway”).

Please let us know in advance whether you will be skiing or snowboarding and whether or not you have your own gear. Helmets recommended.

Register early as this program always fills quickly. More trips to come in the New Year!

 

 

Bulldogs Hockey Game Trips

Depart Tofino at 4:45 pm sharp
9-13 years

Check out Port Alberni’s own Bulldogs as they face off against the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. The rec van will depart from Tofino at 4:45 pm sharp and take you to Port Alberni. Return time depends on length of game. Bring some spending money for the concession/dinner. Participants will be dropped off at home. Call us and get your name on the list, 725-3229.

Let's Bring back the West Coast Floor Hockey League!

Meet at Village Green Gazebo
at 4:45 sharp

Cost: $20

Coaches and players interested in a revival of the West Coast Floor Hockey League, please contact Sally or April at 725-3229. Players aged 6-12 welcome.

 

Winter Wonderland

Dates to be announced

Port Alberni Multiplex creates a wonderful winter wonderland every year that you can skate. Hop in the rec van for this great winter get-outa-town trip. Date will depend on Winter wonderland skating schedule. Watch for a notice out in early December with this and other exciting Christmas programs.
