Tofino in October 2008

Well it's safe to say that the rains have arrived. Thankfully we got some of that sunshiny goodness in September so that we're not going into this winter without any sense of a summer. Be sure to check our calendar and pick up the Tofino Parks and Recreation brochure so as to see all the programs that are being offered to enhance our lives and help occupie the long winter nights ahead. Hopefully you've got a full woodshed, a stack of books and if you're lucky - a plane ticket for some escape time at some point.Tofino Public Market
The Tofino Public Market will be wrapping up their summer outdoor season on October 11th. This will be the last time they will setup in the village green. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to support our local artisans and crafters. Keep your eyes on the bulletin boards for special event market throughout the wetter months usually held in the community hall.
Bamfield Mushroom Festival
For an adventurous trip out of town the 6th Annual Bamfield Mushroom Festival offers an unique experience. Designed to be both educational and scrumptious the fest has many diverse events planned such as guided foraging in the forest, a mushroom derby, cooking contests and classes and a "Toadstool Stomp" to round out the weekend. Halloween in Tofino
Undoubtedly one of Tofino's favourite day of the year is Halloween. Whether your young or just proudly immature there are fun and games for all. As always Parks and Rec and the Rec Commission will be raising the dead for the "Haunted Alley Bonfire." This amazing annual tradition is held from 5 to 7pm at the corner of Fourth and Gibson. There will be hot chocolate and hot dogs for the little ones and their chaperones. New this year is a youth dance for kids ages 8 to 18. This will be held at the Tofino Community Hall from 8-11pm. For the big kids the legion will be having the annual Halloween Boogie with the incredible dj Mat the Alien.
Tofino Film Festival
The 11th annual Tofino Film Festival will take place from October 23rd to 26th. The festival will include a family matinee, a collection of shorts, a music documentary, environmental films, and some intriguing feature narratives. The schedule will be posted throughout Tofino by the second week of October. Tickets will be available at select locations in Tofino and Ucluelet and also available for sale at the door.
