The 23rd Annual Legion Fishing Derby
You would be hard pressed to find a longer running tradition in Tofino than the Legion Derby. There's been 3 generations of Tofitians out on the water angling for the big fish that gets them the big prize which, as always rpm and Mercury have come through with a portable Mercury outboard. If you don't catch the biggest big one there are plenty of amazing prizes up for winning for the top 3 fish in each species category. The action on land is down at the Method Marine dock Saturday from noon to 8pm sharp and Sunday from noon to 4pm sharp. Followed up by the awards ceremony and salmon barbeque on Sunday evening. For registration info, contest rules and tickets drop by Method Marine or rpm.
The Yu-cluth-aht Festival
This August will see the first annual Yu-cluth-aht Holistic Celebration of Health on August 10, 11 & 12, 2007 by Ucluelet First Nation at the Ucluelet Recreation Field on Seaplane Base Rd. This fun-filled 3-day event features music, speakers, workshops and much more the whole family will enjoy. Listen to live performances from award winning artists like Marcel Gagnon and Janet Panic. Be part of the audience with acclaimed speakers Robert and Terri Lynn Talltree attend their workshop on Saturday. Browse through the artisan gallery and Enjoy The Le-La-La Dancers from Alert Bay and the Quwutsn Tzinqa Dance group from Duncan. For more information check www.musicfest.ufn.ca or call 726-7343
Come and join Tofino for the annual summer fundraiser for our Multi Use Path Saturday August 11 from 4-7pm. There will be live music with Tofino's own, The Bottomfeeders and there will be the beer garden and barbeque. Volunteers will be needed for the days events so if your interested contact the district at 725-3229. There are expansion plans in the works for the path in both directions. The first priority is finishing a safe route all the way into the downtown core. Future goals include the potential linking of Tofino and Ucluelet through the Pacific Rim National Park. Earlier in the day the 2nd annual Mup Cup will be run from the info center into the village.
A Tofino Favourite is back once again. This event really brings out the best in our community. There's something there for all ages to wonder at and enjoy. The setting is spectacular in Botanical Gardens and with this years acoustic concert it should be magical. If your interested in getting involved be sure to join in on one the many lantern making workshops.
