Roadsworth: Crossing the Line
2008, Canada, Documentary, 72 minutes,
Directed by Alan Kohl
Over a period of three years, the stencil artist Peter Gibson, aka Roadsworth, made his mark on Montreal in the early hours of the morning by launching a self-described "attack on the streets."
Armed with spray paint and handmade stencils, he began to play with the language of the streets, overlaying city asphalt markings with his own images: a crosswalk became a giant boot print, vines choked up traffic dividers, and electrical plugs filled parking spots. Each piece begged the question, who owns public space? The film reflects Roadsworth's personal struggle to defend his work, define himself as an artist and address difficult questions about art and freedom of expression.

Thinking he has nothing to lose he moves to L.A where his reputation and his music are soon at stake. However, if he plays his cards right it could all be grist for his darkly humorous songs.

Dear Lemon Lima
2009, USA, Comedy / Drama, 87 minutes,

The feature presentation of the Tofino Film Festival, Dear Lemon Lima is an artfully produced, wonder-filled comedy about a young Yup'ik (Western Inuit) girl finding her way through the perils of infatuation, high school and geekdom while coming to terms with her place in a society where her culture is vaunted while she is not. Although it is an American film, it gently brings to the fore issues that Canadians are faced with daily. This is a truly original film, as touching as it is funny and quirky.

Musica Surfica
2008, Australia, Surf/Music Documentary
Directed by Mick Sowry
A surf film that stands out from the rest by exploring the collision between classical music and experimental finless surfing. Combining the talents and vision of violin virtuoso Richard Tognetti and surfing provocateur Derek Hynd, Musica Surfica taps into the energy that sets surfing apart as a creatively driven pursuit. This is one of those rare sports films that opens up new doors in an often stagnant genre. Not to be missed.
