A rising star in the roots music scene Hayleys has been garnering a lot of attention where ever she goes. Originally from Portland and now a Vancouver Island farm girl Hayley grew up in a life that was saturated with music. Her father, an ex-hippie was a performing guitarist and ran a recording studio out of their home. Hayleys music is blues, folk and rock, a deliciously rich blend of music to warm your hearts. Her guitar style is sensual and electric and wildly syncopated. Don't miss this opportunity to see her up close and personal.

february 14, 2008Justin Nozuka & Haley Sales

Thursday, February 14, 2008
Tofino Legion
Tix $12 • Doors 9:00 pm

(double feature with Haley Sales)

Blending elements of neo-soul, folk, old-time blues and pop, Justin has the guts of Ray LaMontagne and the soul of Lauryn Hill. This guitar slinging aficionado has the street smarts of an urban swinger and the heart-bending soul of a gospel preacher, and is adept at blending a dark, bluesy Americana vibe with warm, acoustic soul where bits of old folk music and flamenco tunes swirl in and out of earshot. Half Japanese, half American Justin Nozuka was born in New York and grew up in Toronto, Raised by a single mother, Justin was the sixth of seven children. As a teen, he spun Motown, folk and hip-hop as he fleshed out his music skills learning guitar at boarding school. During his short career, Justin has already snagged stage time with John Cale, Crowded House, Ziggy Marley, Sam Roberts, Jully Black and Xavier Rudd.

tofino concert - grupo fantasma

february 23, 2008Grupo Fantasma

Saturday, February 23, 2008
Tofino Legion
Tix $15 • Doors 9:00 pm

Grupo Fantasma's style of music is like a good knife; sharp and dirty. Hailing from places as far-flung as New York City and Laredo, Texas, these drunkards, geniuses, and freaks are transforming traditional Latin styles of music with their skillful songwriting, inventive arrangements, and exuberant live shows. Incorporating funk, mambo, merengue, cumbia, dancehall, dub, and other elements into their mesmerizing performances, Grupo Fantasma routinely plays to houses packed with people shaking ass. They are the finest and funkiest latin orchestra to come out of the United States in the last decade. The band successfully obliterates the cliches that often plague the current Latin music market, all the while keeping their feet firmly planted in the traditions that they love and deeply respect.
