Artist Gayle Ryon

A recent addition to Tofino, 35 year old Gayle Ryon is an Emily Carr graduate who has also studied fine arts at the University of British Columbia and the San Francisco Art Institute. Having lived the last twelve years in Vancouver, the Alberta born painter grew up on Vancouver Island. He has been exhibiting artworks for more than a decade in Vancouver, Toronto and San Francisco, and has been widely recognized for his work. Ryon’s work can be found in the collections of the Vancouver Art Gallery and Mercer Union in Frankfurt, Germany.

Ryon will be showcasing a series of works on paper this year at Café Pamplona, to run concurrent with the Tofino Food and Wine Festival at the Tofino Botanical Gardens. Last year Ryon attended the event as Artist in Action, introducing female nudes cradling starfish into the garden’s retinue. The show will open June 02, 2004 and comprises of oil on canvas ‘Seascapes’, as well as approximately fifty still life works, all variations on a singular theme.

These oil, graphite and aluminum foil on paper works articulate a fascination with west coast phenomena: Moon Snail Shells. The artworks are debuting Ryon’s addition to the greater arts community of Tofino. All works on paper will be offered for sale at the promotional rate of $500 each.
