Artist Gary Pearson

Gary went out on a sunny day, a few clouds scudding overhead, three cats in the grass. A dog raced by, chasing a crow in the sky.

A box full of hammers was nearby, and someone had sent him a barn roof in the mail, rusted and worn. Small spirits hid in the rose bushes, quietly laughing.

This might sound a bit fanciful, but it really happens at his place. Gary and Shellie live with one dog, three cats, sixty chickens, and an unknown number of other beings, on two acres in Saanicton, ten miles north of Victoria. The studio is in the middle of a beautiful garden—this gives him lots of opportunity to sit and stare out the window. When he’s actually working the influence of such a surrounding inspires him to try to recreate beauty.

Gary has given up trying to compete with nature, but rather borrows from natures lines and seemingly effortless design sense.

The pieces that he makes inspire his clients’ imagination, and allow them to discover new things in the work as they live with it.
