Tofino artist Christy Feaver
Christy Feaver is an artist through and through. Her whole life she has loved using her hands to express her creativity through art, photography and stain glass works, which has now lead her to metal work, her true passion. Christy was born and raised on Vancouver Island with much of her time spent in Tofino. She has traveled the globe in search of inspiration, growth and creativity. Currently she lives in Bali where she and a partner are opening The Cause Gallery, an art gallery where proceeds can be used to develop programs for street youth in Bali. The hope is to provide them with a safe place to live, give them love, education and help rehabilitate them through art.
Christy draws much of her inspiration from the simple lines and shapes of the mountains and ocean as well from modern architecture and the urban landscape. It's the melding of these paradoxes that gives Christy's jewelry its unique esthetic. At present she works mostly in silver, brass and copper by forming, forging and hammering metals.
Christy has studied with master goldsmiths at The Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts and with renowned designer Robert Lee Morris. It was Morris that taught Christy to follow her heart and discover a signature style that both defines and represents her, separating her from other jewelers. For Christy working with metals allows her to put her energy and power in what she creates, thus passing it on to the people who are attracted to her work. To her this is a healing craft.
Christy's newest work will be shown by her at the Tofitian on Saturday May 17th from 3 to 6pm. Her work can also be found at the Lounge Collection art gallery in Tofino.
