Winter is most definitely upon us. The days are so very much shorter and the seas so very much bigger. Be sure to check out all that is being organized within our community as far as activities and cultural events. The groups and individuals that are producting them deserve your support.
The West Coast Winter Music Series returning for it's 9th season starting Saturday November 8th with the Marc Atkinson Trio. The series will continue with pianist Jane Coop and cellist Antonio Lysy on Friday January 23rd, Sangha with vocalist Fathieh Honori on Saturday February 28th, pianist Rena Sharon on Saturday March 28th and an evening of flamenco with Alma de Espana on Saturday April 18th. The amazing annual Oyster Festival will be starting on Thursday Nov 20th. Unfortunately the Gala on the Saturday night is sold out as always but there are plenty of other happenings to join in on. Join the fun in costume for the Mermaid's Ball! Featuring the Oyster Pit with raw and BBQ oysters, live music, oyster slurping contest and prizes for best costume! Live music with The Tainted Lovers from Vancouver, BC, with special guests Shazam! opening the show. Costume pieces are available at Castaways.
The Ucluelet Secondary School's grade 11 and 12 French classes are planning a cultural exchange trip to Quebec city in the spring. They will be producing events around our communities in efforts to raise funds to make the trip a reality. So keep your eyes peeled for these ambitious youth and please support their cause. One of the fundraising efforts is the sale of pointsettias, just in time for Christmas. Order them online until November 21 at usstoquebec.plants4nonprofit.com to have them delivered to your home before Chrismas.
