Tofino in April

by Adam Buskard, Tofino

A

A call to the Tofino artisans to join a studio tour. Tofino's dynamic and wild landscape draws artists from far and wide and fills them with daily inspiration. Visitors to our town often seek out these artisans in hopes of finding that perfect something to take home to visually express and remind them of their magical stay here. Tofino Studio Tour will give visitors a chance to meet local artists, experience art studios in action, and purchase works directly from the maker. The tour is currently being organised by local artists for all artists with their own studios to participate. Artists must be willing to open their studios to the public the first Sunday of every month from June until September 2008. All mediums welcome. Registration deadline is April 30th! For more information and to register call Lisa Jewell 725-3677 or Daniela Petosa 725-2297.

Earth Day Weekend in Tofino
On Tuesday April 22

The world will be celebrating Earth Day. Tofino's festivities will be kicking off Saturday April 19th with morning yoga and then expand into a weekend full of great events and festivities including interpretive walks, talks and movies, community clean ups and the yummy 4th annual Earth Day Pancake Breakfast. The breakfast takes place at the Cedar Corner building. Scarf down stacks of hemp pancakes, organic maple syrup and gulp mugs of organic fair trade coffee to celebrate Earth Day! All meals are served on cane paper plates and bio-degradable corn plastic cutlery, but if you want to do even better-bring your own plate. All funds generated through donations will go to the Raincoast Education Society-a non-profit society aimed at educating both children and adults about the natural environment.

Tofino Poetry Picnic

The Clayoquot Writers Group is holding a Poetry Picnic April 24th from 7 - 11pm to celebrate World Wide Poetry month. This 'bring your own blanket' picnic themed event will be held in the big blue old ice plant below the Whalers on the Point Hostel. Tickets are $10.00 which includes drink tickets, food (sponsored by the Tin Wis, 4th St Natural Market, and the CWG) and a great evening of poetry.

Pacific Rim Shorebird Festival

The Raincoast Education Society is holding the 11th Annual Pacific Rim Shorebird Festival from April 25 to 27, 2008. On the Pacific Rim, peak shorebird migration occurs in late April and early May... join the Raincoast Education Society for walks, talks, and more so you can learn more about these amazing birds that stop over on our local mudflats and beaches for just a few days during a journey of thousands of kilometers long! For more information call 250.725-2560 or email res@island.net

Move It! Dance Workshop

In celebration of BC arts week the Pacific Rim Arts Society and Tofino Parks & Recreation present Move It! Every Body's Chance to Dance, a Joe Ink Community Dance Workshop. This will take place at the Tofino Community Hall Saturday & Sunday April 26, 27. When was the last time you felt truly alive in your own skin? Move It! invites participants back into their bodies, to everyone's first language: Movement. From toddler to grandmother, community members of all ages and abilities come together to be inspired, empowered and motivated. Led by Vancouver dancer/choreographer Jacci Collins, the workshop will help you rediscover the pleasure of movement in a safe environment. Joe Ink is a Vancouver based dance company, lead by choreographer Joe Laughlin. Started in 1995 they have built a solid reputation as being 'daring' and 'wickedly sophisticated'. Pre-registration is required, please call 725-4271 for more information and to sign up. There will be a free public presentation on Sunday the 27th from 3:30 to 4pm.
