tofino concert - serena ryder

February 2, 2007Serena Ryder

Friday, February 2, 2007
Tofino Legion
Tickets $12, Doors 9pm

Serena Ryder is just 23. But her voice, a deep, bluesy, soulful instrument that has drawn comparisons to Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin, makes her sound much older. She also appears wise beyond her years, blessed with an intelligence and confidence that came across in her songs on The Boston Globe was impressed by her "outstanding" vocal range and predicted she'd become a "major force."

tofino concert - lions in the street

February 10, 2007Lions in the Street

Saturday, February 10, 2007
Tofino Legion
Tickets $8, Doors 9pm

Vancouver's Lions In The Street are on a mission - to bring the "roll" back to "rock" shows. With no regard to those around them, when Lions In The Street roll into town they bring the party music. On stage, bourbon and beer go hand-in-hand with balls-out solos and hearts-out playing. Rock 'n Roll back with a swagger and being played the way it should sound...the way it was meant to be: dirty , bluesy and loose. But don't fret lovers... they been known to kick out Band-esque ballads with Allman Brothers Band jams. Yeah, the full package that only a four-piece band inspired by Exile-era Stones and Chuck Berry can deliver. Lions In The Street have managed "the difficult task of sounding current yet awesomely retro"...a perfect combination for a real rock 'n roll party.

tofino concert - james t kirks

February 17, 2007James T Kirks

Saturday, February 17, 2007
Tofino Legion
Tickets $10, Doors 9pm

Edomonton's kings of Instrumental Punk Surf Rock are still at it after 13 whiskey soaked years of rawknroll madness. The James T. Kirks are still alive, still kickin ass, still breakin hearts, and still corrupting youth, just as they always have. With one cross-Canadian tour, countless live bootlegs, innumerable hall and bar performances, a live theatre score, and high profile shows in exotic locals such as Moosejaw, Vegreville & Penhold all to their credit, there seems to be no limit to the Kirks tentacle-like infiltration of civilized society. Much like Elvis in his famed 1968 comeback special, the James T. Kirks have decided to permanently re-ignite the tiki-torch of Edmonton surf punk and to soldier on in the face of vicious opposition from concerned parents, church groups and several ptas. The evil gospel of Instro-Punk must be spread!

tofino concert - budos band

February 23, 2007Budos Band

Friday, February 23, 2007
Tofino Legion
Tickets $15, Doors 9pm

The Budos Band has erupted onto the Funk and Soul scene with a malicious sound that all but commands you to burn down the dance floor. This 11 piece group offers up nasty cuts of cosmic afro-influenced psychedelic funk that haunt your head long after the music stops. Their music has been described as "compelling", "unbridled", "psychedelic", "innovative", and above all "soulful." They claim that the secret to their enormous sound is a selfless approach to rhythm: each man finding his own place and purpose in the greater landscape of the measure. However, any observant listener can hear that it is something far more simple and rare that elevates their sound beyond the sphere of cognitive reason and into that far greater realm of pure feeling: The Budos Band have Soul, on the inside. And it's strong.
