Tickets $12, Doors 9pmIt is difficult to lump the Pocket Dwellers into one general genre of music. The band is rock, jazz, soul mixed with flowing soul. It is pulsating drum'n'bass with a heavy funk kick. It is as diverse as its eight (yes eight!) band members which all lend to the up-and-coming band's sound and its direction. This outfit is a multi-talented, multi-influenced collective. Musicians, ranging from classically or jazz trained, to street-smart and self-taught, the Pocket Dwellers bring their diverse talents together to create a line-up that includes guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, a cadre of horns, a couple of turntables, a hip-hop M.C. and a wallop of energy. They are one unique and powerful sound and are perhaps best known for their live shows. After literally hundreds of performances criss-crossing the nation,it is easy to see why the band's reputation has swelled upon the strength of these gigs.

Doors 8:30pmThe Clayoquot Oyster Festivals' Mermaids Ball presents Rumba Calzada, a hot Vancouver Latin jazz and salsa band on November 19th at Tin Wis Best Western. Rumba Calzada (which means rumba roadway in Spanish) blends jazz, salsa and Afro-Cuban styles using such instruments as the congas, timbales, trombone, bass and keyboard. We like to mix it up by adding funk, jazz and English lyrics with our Latin repertoire, says Raphael Geronimo, lead composer, arranger and percussionist. It's get-people-up-and-dancing music. Nominated for 2002 Juno Award, winners of a West coast Music Award and Canadian Independent Music Award Rumba Calzada will get your tails a-swishing at the Clayoquot Oyster Festivals Mermaids Ball.

Tickets $10, Doors 9pmDJ Murge started DJing in 1996. A year later he started playing local clubs and on the local university radio station. Eventually he became interested in creating the type of music he was playing, and began working on his first beats in 1997. His first forays into recording were with Moka Only and a local Victoria BC rap group S.O.S. None of the four track songs made with Moka or the S.O.S. guys were released, but the seed was plantedÉ Just B is set to make his mark on world wide hip hop. From humble beginnings in Northern B.C. to collaborations with the likes of Moka Only and DJ Vadim this man's goal of creating conscious, quality music has never wavered. Well versed in the arts of battling, writing and producing, Just B brings a full arsenal of skills to the table. The most apparent of these is the honesty and energy of his live shows.
