tofino skatepark update

Tofino Skatpark Update
by Miche Milford, Tofino

We are well into 2004 now, and I find myself thinking is this the year we will look back on as the golden year the Tofino Skate Park was built? If we stay focused and stay committed it very well could be.

We have been staying busy the last couple of months with the usual paper pushing it takes to apply for grants, put together proposed budgets, and convince anyone who will listen that we are a worthy cause to support. We are slowly making headway and are kicking fundraising efforts into full swing again. Movie nights were temporarily put on hold but will be starting again a.s.a.p. Keep an eye out for coming attractions. For all you kids out there we will be having a matinee so any movie requests let me know.

We also put alot of time and effort into building a skate area under the school this winter but unfortunatly the school board had other plans, so the ramps all sit down in that dry area collecting dust and garbage and we have no place to skate. Not all is lost though we are looking for a dry place to build a mini-ramp so the future is not all wet skate-less days.

On the other end of the penninsula Ucluelet has everything in place to start their park this year. From what I understand they just need to decide on the company to build it and they are on their way, wich is awesome news for anyone that rides a skateboard on the west coast.I am keeping in touch with those involved in that prodject so I will keep you informed.

To get involved or if you just want some information feel free to call me at 725-2072 See you soon!
